Information Communication
Technology (ICT) for Capacity building and
Empowerment Bunyad has 22 decentralized Community Resource centres
called the Basic Education Research Training Initiatives (BERTI),
which are the focal points of learning in the rural areas
of central and southern Punjab. After extensive training,
the learners are empowered to provide learning
opportunities and develop materials suited to their local
needs and requirements. all the BERTIs have a team of
trainers in Non-Formal Primary Education (NFPE) and
Non-Formal Basic Education (NFBE). To promote UNESCO
concept of the community learning centres, Bunyad has,
through the BERTIs, mobilized 9 CLC's at the grassroots
level. CLC's spearheaded
by communities, which are run by a
committee of local people. The CLCs have been started by
Bunyad in conjunction with BERTIs to meet the learning
needs of illiterate communities where reading material is
not available.
Aims
& Objectives:

To
promote human and community development through life
long learning and provide opportunities without caste,
creed, age and sex.

provide education and training to community and
information and resource service.

To
promote a continuous flow of learning to the newly
literate adolescents.

To
assist community for development at grassroots level.

To
develop networking with Government / Local and Donors.
Geographical Coverage:
There
are 13 BERTIs community learning centres at Lahore,
Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Sialkot,
Bahawalpur, Shujabad, Kabirwala, Arifwala, Sargodha and
Ghulla Watoon and
22 CLCs
different areas linked with Information Communication
Technology (ICT) they all providing

Functional literacy - some of the BERTIs have become
independently registered NGOs having their own
programmes. Bunyad has number of other NGOs affiliated
with it for the promotion of common objectives in
different areas. They Collaborate with Bunyad in a
number of ways.

Bunyad & ICT
ICT is the quickest & most
rapid way to transfer technology to a wider audience,
Bunyad develop a CD which is a collection of very useful
material for the Teachers & learners. The ICT is used to
connect with the CLC's & other partner stakeholders -
especially PEW-Pakistan Education Watch(www.pew.org.pk).
BUNYAD
Foundation has focused on EFA & making adolescent girls
Literate , imparting NFPE to working children & developed
many materials for Post Literacy. Recently developed is a
CD for Resource Persons for LIFE activity. 40 participants
in the recent 5 days workshop , in ICE-Institute of
Community Education, the Training arm of BUNYAD worked on
3 APPEAL manuals & few ACCU booklets, which were translated in the national
language ‘urdu’, then developed on a CD. This was
further field tested on 20 Teachers in 2 rural centers own
CLC's,
modified & then improved. For the first time Literacy
Training has a Training CD developed which will be more
easily & widely disseminated.
For
Post Literacy & to encourage Adolescent Learners with

BUNYAD ICT section works closely with other partners & are
connected to 12 CLC’s To which messages etc are regularly
shared with & complaints etc reach the HQ at the earlist.
Teaching Street Children the basics of IVT is also an
on-going process.
BUNYAD

workers, CLC managers, community members, neo-literate
women and IT professionals are also concerned with these.

Computer for Children:
Bunyad
has started rural children on to computers in Pasrur, Icho
Gil, Fatima School making children aware of the benefits &
use of the computer.
